Can you say this in an American newspaper?

The Gay Debate - JAMAICAOBSERVER.COM:
"'Even middle-class persons who were previously very tolerant of homosexuality are becoming offended and energised and sensitised. That is where the danger for them lies,' cautioned Dr Orville Taylor, a sociologist with the University of the West Indies (UWI)."

Thus an academic in Jamaica describes the potential fallout from campaigns for homosexual acceptance in the islands. This actually highlights what is going on in a way I don't recall seeing in our own MSM. It is not enough for homosexuals that they have won a grudging toleration, they want acceptance at least and celebration if possible.

Having gained tolerance in part by claiming that homosexuality is an inherited condition, they are moving on to celebrate being what they can't help being and asking the broader society to celebrate with them, or at least accept what they do as "normal." It's a classic bait and switch tactic; and, like the bait and switch trickery of merchants, it tends to to upset the customers when they figure out they have been mislead. Hence, the professor's concern about a backlash.
