FEMA recruits firefighters ... but not to fight fires

WorldNetDaily: Rescuers turned into PR flaks:

"FEMA spokesman Mary Hudak said it was made clear, at least to fire chiefs, what the mission would be.

"'The initial call to action very specifically says we're looking for two-person fire teams to do community relations,' she told the paper. 'So if there is a breakdown [in communication], it was likely in their own departments.'"

It seems FEMA has recruited 1,400 firefighters from around the country - highly trained professionals with such additional qualifications as search and rescue, hazardous materials or emergency medical technician - and assembled them in Atlanta where they are attending sexual harassment training before being sent into the storm ravaged area.

Even then, they will not be fighting fires or rescuing people. No, FEMA wants them to go out two-by-two like Mormon missionaries handing out leaflets that tell residents to call FEMA's toll-free number to register for benefits. Of course, most of these folks don't have working telephones, so they can't call FEMA anyway.
